The Grandes Murailles ( French for 'large walls', 3906 m slm ) are a jagged rock ridge a little over three kilometers long in the Italian part of the Valais Alps . They form the beginning of the side ridge that branches off at the Dent d'Hérens ( 4171 m above sea level ) to the south from the main Alpine ridge and separates the Valpelline in the west from the Valtournenche with the Breuil-Cervinia basin in the east. The Murailles are separated from the Dent d'Hérens in the north by the Colle des Grandes Murailles ( 3827 m slm ). In the south, the Petites Murailles ( French for 'small walls', 3630 m slm ) join, separated by the Col Budden ( 3562 m slm ). Seen from the east, the Murailles give the impression of an almost closed rock face.

The highest point of the Murailles is the Punta Margherita (Italian) or Pointe Marguerite (French) with a height of 3,906 meters. It rises as the first peak in the north of the ridge. The Pointe des Cors ( 3852 m slm ) joins further south . After the not particularly distinctive cut of the Col de Cors ( 3740 m slm ), Punta Ester ( 3790 m slm ), Pointe Lioy ( 3821 m slm ), Les Jumeaux ( 3875 m slm ) and Becca de Guin ( 3805 m slm ) follow south the ridge to Col Budden descends.
On the west side of the Grandes Murailles is the Glacier des Grandes Murailles, a larger valley glacier , for which an area of 7.57 km² was determined in 1975. On the east side there is another glacier with the Mont-Tabel-Glacier, also in 1975 an area of 1.4 km² was determined for this.
