Valtournenche is an Italian commune in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley .
The community has 2263 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). The actual place Valtournenche is 1330 m slm in the valley of the same name Valtournenche . The marbles flow through the valley.
Valtournenche is a member of the Unité des Communes valdôtaines Mont-Cervin .
Valtournenche is the historic capital of the valley. Today's municipality of Valtournenche is made up of the main town Pâquier ( 1528 m ) and the villages of Barmasse, Bioley, Brengaz, Breuil ( 2003 m ), Busserailles, Chaloz, Champ l'éve, Châtelard, Cheneil , Cheperon, Crépin ( 1577 m ) , Crétaz ( 1502 m ), Clou, Cré, Cré-du-Pont, Duerche, Euillaz, Fontaine, La Muranche, La Vénaz, Laviel, Layet, Losanche ( 1640 m ), Le Lou (Loz), Maën, Maisonnasse, Montaz , Mont-Mené, Mont-Perron, Moulin, Pâquier (chef-lieu), Pecou, Les Perrères, Saix, Servaz, Singlin, Tourtourouse, Tsignanaz, Ussin and Valmartin.
The place is considered the cradle of alpinism in Italy. Expeditions to the Matterhorn, about 12 km away, started from there in the 19th century . Valtournenche also includes the holiday resort Breuil-Cervinia ( 2003 m ), from which nowadays the Matterhorn climbs start from the Italian south side.
The neighboring communities are Antey-Saint-André , Ayas , Bionaz , Chamois , Torgnon and Zermatt (Switzerland).
From 1939 to 1946 the place had the Italianized name Valtornenza .
