Location of Montjovet within the Aosta Valley region

Montjovet is an Italian commune in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley . The municipality has 1771 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), is located at an average altitude of 406  m slm and has a size of 18 km². The inhabitants are called mongiovettini (It.) Or montjouvins (French). Montjovet is a member of the Unité des Communes valdôtaines Évançon .

Montjovet consists of the districts (Italian Frazioni, French Hameaux) Balmet, Barmachande, Barmata, Berger, Berriaz, Bourg, Broccard, Brun, Chambis, Champérioux, Champ-Sitirou, Chenal, Chenoz, Chosaley, Ciseran, Creston, Croux, Devin, Estaod, Fenillettaz, Fiusey, Fornet, Gaspard, Gettaz, Guaz, Grand-Hoël, Janton, Lavà, Laveuché, Lillaz, Lorià, Meran, Montat, Montquert, Muret, Oley, Plangerp, Perral, Petit-Hoël, Petit- Monde, Plout, Provaney, Quignonaz, Reclou, Rodoz, Ross, Ruelle, Saint-Germain, Taverna, Toffo, Traversière, Tron, Vervaz, Vianà and Vignola. Montjovet is the municipality with the most districts within the Aosta Valley region. The neighboring municipalities are Challand-Saint-Victor , Champdepraz , Châtillon , Émarèse , Saint-Vincent and Verrès .

During the time of fascism the community had the Italianized name Mongiove .

Viticulture

Viticulture is practiced in Montjovet . The DOC - wine Arnad-Montjovet consists of at least 70% of the grape variety Nebbiolo . In addition, the Freisa , Dolcetto , Neyret , Vien de Nus and Pinot Noir varieties find their way into the red wine made as a blend . The very rare Ner d'Ala grape variety also thrives in the municipality .
