Castelnuovo Magra (in Ligurian : Castelnövu ) is an Italian commune with 8,384 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Liguria region . Politically it belongs to the province of La Spezia .
geography
The ancient city center is located on Monte Bastione , a hill whose slopes reach down to the plain of the Magra River . Due to the exposed location, you have an all-round panorama from the town center over the valley floor to the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Val di Vara .
In 2002 Castelnuovo Magra was awarded the Bandiera Arancione by the Touring Club Italiano , which distinguishes special quality in the areas of environment and tourism.
Culture and sights
The city was founded in the 11th century and was owned by the Bishops of Luni .
In the parish church "Santa Maria Maddalena", which was built in the late Renaissance under the influence of Brunelleschi , there is the painting "Crucifixion" by Pieter Brueghel the Elder. J. , a copy of the picture by Pieter Brueghel the Elder. Ä.
