Maurizio Maggiani
Maurizio Maggiani (born October 1, 1951 in Castelnuovo Magra , La Spezia province ) is an Italian writer .
biography
Coming from a humble background, Maggiani often changed jobs before finally finding his way to writing. So he was u. a. as a prison teacher, teacher for blind children, photographer, cutter, assistant director, designer of hydraulic pumps as well as in advertising and in the city administration. In 1987 he won the prize for unpublished works ( Premio Inedito - L'Espresso ) donated by the weekly magazine L'Espresso with the story Prontuario per la donna senza cuore (German: Handbook for the woman without a heart ). In the years that followed, his works were very successful with readers and critics.
For his novel Il Coraggio del pettirosso ( The Courage of the Robin ), he was awarded the Premio Viareggio and the Premio Campiello in 1995. Further awards followed: La Regina disadorna ( Queen without jewelry ) won the Premio Alassio and the Premio Stresa di Narrativa in 1999 . His most successful novel to date, Il viaggiatore notturno ( Travelers in the Night ) earned him the Premio Strega , the Premio Ernest Hemingway from the municipality of Lignano Sabbiadoro and the Premio Letterario Parco Maiella from the municipality of Abbateggio ( Pescara province ) in 2005 .
Maggiani also writes as a columnist for the Genoese daily Il Secolo XIX and the Turin-based La Stampa . He publishes podcasts for his publisher Feltrinelli under the title Il viaggiatore zoppo ( The hobble traveler ) .
