War is the third studio album by Irish band U2 , released in 1983 . The album is produced by Steve Lillywhite . It is the band's first album that had a strong political background.
In 1989 Rolling Stone Magazine voted the record number 40 of the 100 Best Albums of the 1980s. Later it came in 223rd place in his list of the 500 best albums of all time.
The album became U2's first number 1 album in the UK, overtaking Michael Jackson's album Thriller .
As a special feature, the album on compact cassette contains the entire album on each side.
Cover of the album
The boy on the album cover is Peter Rowan, brother of Bono's friend Guggi. He also appeared on the covers of the U2 albums Boy , Three, The Best of 1980–1990 and Early Demos.
