Under a Blood Red Sky is both a concert video and a live album by Irish rock band U2 , which was released in 1983 on Island Records . Both made U2 better known, and both were produced by Jimmy Iovine . Under a Blood Red Sky is the UK's top selling live album.
History of origin
The album includes live recordings of three concerts from the band's War Tour .
The concert video was released with the album; however, both the video and the album did not include some tracks that were played at the concerts, such as Two Hearts Beat As One . The recordings from the Red Rocks Amphitheater (near Denver ) on June 5, 1983 contributed to the dramatic overall impression of the concert due to the heavy rain and the bright spotlights that stood around the stage. The video recordings ran regularly on MTV .
The recordings at the Red Rocks were included in the list of "50 Moments that Changed Rock and Roll". The album title Under a Blood Red Sky is taken from the song New Years Day from the album War . However, this line of text cannot be heard on the concert video of the same name because Bono had changed it (due to the weather) to Under A Thunder Cloud And Rain .
The majority of the pieces on the record were recorded at the Rockpalast concert on the Loreley on August 20, 1983, including Sunday Bloody Sunday. The explanation that Bono prefers the song “ This song is not a rebel song ” does not come from the Rockpalast recording, however, where the U2 singer tried to explain the meaning of the piece in German.
