Calice al Cornoviglio (in Ligurian : Córzi ) is an Italian municipality with 1087 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). It is located in the Ligurian province of La Spezia .

The municipality belongs to the Comunità Montana della Media e Bassa Val di Vara and also makes up part of the territory of the Montemarcello-Magra Natural Park . The common land of Calive al Cornoviglio is exclusively mountainous with narrow valleys, some of which are traversed by small streams. The core of the community is at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level.

history

In the 11th century owned by the Bishops of Luni , Calice came to the Malaspina family before 1033 , to the Fieschi around 1270 , then became a guard of the Republic of Genoa against the Milanese, who settled in the neighboring Castello di Madrignano , came to the in 1547 Doria and in 1772 to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany . Since then, the castle has served as the seat of the authorities and today houses u. a. a cultural center and a museum.
