The place is about 15 km northwest of the provincial capital La Spezia , about 80 km southeast of the regional capital Genoa and about 335 km northwest of the Italian capital Rome in the climatic classification of Italian municipalities in zone D, 1,467 GG.

Beverino is located on the Vara river at the confluence of the Graveglia in the Val di Vara , forms part of the Comunità Montana della Media e Bassa Val di Vara and also belongs to the Montemarcello-Magra Nature Park .

history

The Beverino castle was first mentioned in writing in 1202. The town of San Cipriano below the castle arose earlier and was ruled by the Estensi family. After that, the Malaspina and the bishops of Luni gained influence in the place, which lasted until the 13th century. From 1247 the place was a free commune (libero comune) and joined the Republic of Genoa .
