Théodore Stravinsky (born March 24, 1907 in Saint Petersburg , † May 16, 1989 in Geneva ) was a Russian painter.

Live and act

Théodore Stravinsky was born in Saint Petersburg in 1907 as the son of the composer Igor Stravinsky . In 1913 he came to Switzerland with the family and later lived in France . During the Second World War , the German occupying forces took him to a distribution center. With the help of various friends, including the patron Werner Reinhart , he came to Geneva in Switzerland in 1943 .

His wife was the daughter of the Geneva painter and student of Hodler , Stéphanie Guerzoni (1887–1970). Théodore Stravinsky was a portraitist , created mosaics , church windows (e.g. Christ the King's Church in Friborg) and frescoes . He carried out assignments in Switzerland, Italy , France, Belgium and the Netherlands . His pictures, watercolors, pastels and oil paintings have been shown in many solo exhibitions in different countries. Stravinsky had to give up painting because he was blind. He died in Geneva in 1989 and found his final resting place in the Russian cemetery of Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois near Paris.

Two years later, his widow, Denise Stravinsky, founded the Théodore Stravinsky Foundation, which had already been planned, based in Geneva, in order to preserve and exhibit his oeuvre.
