La Salle (about 1001 m above sea level) is an Italian municipality in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley in the Alps . It has 2040 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and an area of 83 km². La Salle is on the orographic right side of the Dora Baltea .
The municipality belongs to the Unité des Communes valdôtaines Valdigne-Mont-Blanc , and is its main town. The neighboring municipalities are Avise , Courmayeur , La Thuile , Morgex and Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses . La Salle consists of the districts of Chabodey, Le Pont, La Clusaz, Croix-des-Prés, Écharlod, Écharlod dessus, Chez Béneyton, Fenêtre, Charvaz, Moras, Chez-les-Rosset, Villair, Cré, Villaret, Derby, Chez- les-Gontier, Le Champ, Écours, Prarion, Moyes, Cottin, Chaffieron, Châtelard, Le Château, Beauregard, Villarisson, Remondey, Les Places, Chaffiéry, Arbétey, Chez-les-Baud, Chez-les-Émonet, Beillardey, Chéverel , Challancin, Grassey, Morge, Planaval, Piginière and Chez-Borgne.
The 12th century castle of Châtelard and the castle of Les Cours, where Pope Innocent V was supposedly born, are worth seeing .
The vines for the Blanc de Morgex et de La Salle , a fresh and dry white wine, grow in vineyards above the village .
During the time of fascism the place had the Italianized name Sala Dora .
