Issogne is an Italian commune in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley . The community has 1368 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), is located at an average altitude of 387 m slm and has a size of 24 km². The inhabitants are called Issognesi (Italian) or Issogneins (French). Issogne is a member of the Unité des Communes valdôtaines Évançon . Part of the Natural Park Mont Avic , the first natural park of its kind in the Aosta Valley. The park was established in 1989.
Issogne consists of the districts (Italian: Frazioni, French: Hameaux) Pied-de-ville, La Colombière, La Place, Les Magaret, Les Perruchon, Follias, Les Genot, Les Migot, Les Garines, Fleuran, Clapéyas, Favaz, Mure , Sommet-de-ville, Barmet, Les Mariette, La Ronchaille Dessus and La Ronchaille Lingerie. The neighboring municipalities are Arnad , Champdepraz , Champorcher , Pontboset and Verrès .
The castle was first mentioned in 1151 as a fortress of the Aosta diocese. It stands on the foundations of an ancient Roman villa. In 1379 the bishop enfeoffed the Yblet de Challant with the castle.
During the time of fascism , the village had the Italianized name Issogno .
