Pré-Saint-Didier ( Pré-Saint-Didier-les-Bains until 1861 in the Kingdom of Sardinia ; San Desiderio Terme from 1939 to 1946) is an Italian municipality with 1020 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the Aosta Valley . The community lies at an average altitude of approx. 1004  m slm and is about 33 km² in size.

The neighboring communities are Courmayeur , La Thuile and Morgex . Pré-Saint-Didier consists of the districts Champex, Élévaz, La Balme, Palleusieux, Torrent and Verrand.

history

In Roman times there was probably a villa called Prata ad Sanctum Desiderum here .

The 11th century bell tower of the parish church is one of the oldest in the Aosta Valley. About 200 people lived here around 1860. Spa guests, mostly British, visited the village as early as the 19th century.

Pré-Saint-Didier is located on the historically important Little St. Bernard Pass between the Mont Blanc massif and the French Vanoise massif .

The place is an end point of the Aosta-Pré-Saint-Didier railway line .
