Challand-Saint-Victor (Walser German z'undra Tschallanh ) is an Italian commune in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley . The community has 535 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), is at an average altitude of 744 m slm and has a size of 25 km². The inhabitants are called challandins . Challand-Saint-Victor is a member of the Unité des Communes valdôtaines Évançon and is located in the Ayas Valley , a side valley of the Aosta Valley.
Challand-Saint-Victor consists of the districts Abaz, Champeille, Châtaignères, Isollaz, Nabian, Sizan, Targnod, Vervaz, Ville and Viran. The neighboring municipalities are Arnad , Challand-Saint-Anselme , Émarèse , Issime , Montjovet and Verrès .
During the time of fascism , the village had the Italianized name of Villa Sant'Anselmo .
history
From the beginning of the 13th century until its destruction around 1470, the Château de Ville was the ancestral seat of the noble family Challant, who ruled the Aosta Valley .
On June 26, 1928, by decree 1088, the municipality of Challand-Saint-Victor was merged with the municipality of Challand-Saint-Anselme. The new parish was called Challant. The merger was reversed on September 12, 1946. Until 1976, the official spelling of the parish Challan was t -Saint-Victor.
