Étroubles is an Italian commune with 476 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley .

The place is sponsor of the Bandiera Arancione of the TCI and is a member of the association I borghi più belli d'Italia (The most beautiful places in Italy).

geography

The community lies on the orographic left side of the Dora Baltea at an average altitude of 1280  m slm and has an area of ​​39 km².

The neighboring communities are called Alone , Bourg-Saint-Pierre (Switzerland), Doues , Gignod , Ollomont and Saint-Oyen .

The Strada Statale 27 del Gran San Bernardo leads through Étroubles to the Pass Grosser St. Bernhard , which is part of the European route 27 from Belfort to Aosta .

history

During the time of fascism the place was called Etroble in Italian .

Buildings

A parish church is mentioned in Étroubles as early as the 12th century. The Tour de Vachéry (a tower) also dates from this century.

Personalities

François-Nestor Adam (1903-1990) was born in Étroubles . From 1952 to 1977 he was a Roman Catholic bishop in the diocese of Sion .
