Arnad (Walser German Arnoal ) is an Italian commune in the autonomous region of Aosta Valley with 1243 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

The inhabitants are called arnadins . In the Franco-Provencal language the men are called Arnayot and the women are Arnayota , in French Arnadin and Arnadine respectively. Arnad is a member of the Unité des Communes valdôtaines Évançon .

Culinary specialties

The municipality gives the Valle d'Aosta Lard d'Arnad , a bacon with Designation of Origin ( Denominazione d'Origine Protetta ) its name.

Viticulture

The wine-growing plays a modest role. The DOC - wine Arnad-Montjovet consists of at least 70% of the grape variety Nebbiolo . In addition, the Freisa , Dolcetto , Neyret , Vien de Nus and Pinot Noir varieties find their way into the red wine made as a blend . The rare grape varieties Ner d'Ala and Roussin are grown in Arnad .
