Ponte d'Arbia is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of Monteroni d'Arbia and Buonconvento in the province of Siena , Tuscany region in Italy .
geography
The place is 8 km south of the capital Monteroni d'Arbia, 3 km north of Buonconvento and 25 km southeast of the provincial capital Siena . The place is on the rivers Arbia and Sorra in the Crete Senesi landscape at 151 m on the Via Francigena and the Via Cassia . It is the southernmost district of Monteroni, in 2001 about 450 inhabitants lived here. The municipality of Buonconvento begins south of the bridge. The old chapel and the no longer active mill are located here. The part that belongs to Buonconvento is 149 m and has about 25 inhabitants.
history
The place was known as Borgo d'Arbia in the Middle Ages and had mills for Santa Maria della Scala in the 13th century . It was mainly known for its location on the Via Francigena and the death of Henry VII in 1313 in the immediate vicinity. The place of death is near Serravalle, which today belongs to the municipality of Buonconvento. The first bridge over the Arbia was built in 1388 by the government in Siena and was built in 1656 by Matteo de 'Medici (also called Mattias de' Medici , * April 9, 1613, † October 14, 1667, son of Maria Magdalena of Austria and Cosimo II . de 'Medici ) renewed. In 1969 the church Chiesa della Santa Famiglia was built , located in the northern part of the Monteroni d'Arbia side on the road to Lucignano d'Arbia .
