Bagnone is an Italian municipality with 1788 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Massa-Carrara in Tuscany . The municipality is located about 45 kilometers north of the provincial capital Massa . The village of Bagnone is in a narrow valley, surrounded by oaks and pines.
Sights of the village are z. B. the old castle of the Malaspina family with its keep , which was bought in the 13th century . The chronicler Antonio da Faye is buried in the castle chapel .
In 1904 an iron meteorite of type IIIAB was found in a field near Bagnone . Weighing around 48 kilograms, it is the heaviest iron meteorite in Italy.
In August 2009, the village was increasingly featured in the media, as a villager won a record lottery jackpot of almost 147 million euros. As a result, tourists flocked to Bagnone to view the bar where the winner's ticket was handed in.
