Podenzana is an Italian municipality with 2144 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Massa-Carrara in the Tuscany region .
geography
The municipality is located approx. 140 km northwest of the regional capital Florence , approx. 30 km northwest of Massa and approx. 25 km northwest of Carrara in the wine-growing region Colli di Luni . Some districts are on the Magra .
The municipality is divided into two main towns: Podenzana and Montedivalli.
Podenzana includes Bagni, Barco, Campana Battia, Casalina, Ceresedo, Cerghiraro, Cospedo, Faito, Ficaro, La Costa, Laghi, Lagneda, Loppiedo, Metti, Montale, Montalini, Oliveto, Serracanda, Sescafale and Villa Argentina.
Montedivalli includes Casa Borsi, Fogana, Pagliadiccio, Pianello and Genicciola.
The neighboring municipalities are Aulla , Bolano ( SP ), Calice al Cornoviglio (SP), Follo (SP), Licciana Nardi and Tresana .
history
From the 12th century until the Napoleonic occupation, the area was under the control of the Malaspina di Villafranca , after which rule passed to the Duchy of Modena . The Kingdom of Sardinia annexed the area in 1859, and with Sardinia the place became part of the Tuscany region with Italian unification .
