Enrique de Marchena y Dujarric

Enrique de Marchena y Dujarric (born October 13, 1908 in Santo Domingo , † 1988 ibid) was a Dominican diplomat and composer.

Enrique de Marchena y Dujarric studied at the university and at the Liceo Musical in Santo Domingo. His teachers were Flérida de Nolasco (piano) and Enrique Casal Chapí and Esteban Peña Morell (composition). From 1927 to 1941 he worked as a music critic for the Listín Diario and was a correspondent for Musical America in New York. He was also President of the Composers and Writers Union of the Dominican Republic. From 1945 he taught at the University of Santo Domingo. From 1947 to 1954 he was envoy of the Dominican Republic in Washington, then a delegate to the UN. From 1966 to 1969 he was ambassador to Bonn and Switzerland. Marchena y Dujarric composed a symphonic poem, an orchestral suite, a violin and a flute concerto, a serenade for violin and orchestra, chamber music works, piano and organ pieces and songs.
