Filattiera is an Italian municipality with 2243 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Massa-Carrara in Tuscany . It is located about 40 km northwest of the provincial capital Massa .

The neighboring municipalities are Bagnone , Corniglio ( PR ), Mulazzo , Pontremoli and Villafranca in Lunigiana .

The municipality was the former Byzantine capital of lordship in the Lunigiana . A village dating back to Roman times has been excavated near the Pieve di Sorano church .
