Coiano (previously written Cojano ) is a district ( fraction , Italian frazione ) of Castelfiorentino in the metropolitan city of Florence , Tuscany region in Italy .

geography

It is 4.5 km west of the capital Castelfiorentino and 32 km west of the provincial and regional capital Florence on the Via Francigena . The place is near the border to Montaione and San Miniato between the Egola and Elsa valleys at 182  meters above sea level .

history

The place was first documented as Sce Peter Currant by Sigerich the Serious on his way from Rome to Canterbury in 994. From the 13th century it was one of the 36 fortified structures that belonged to San Miniato. In 1369 the place was taken by Florence .
