Licques (NDL .: "Lieke") is a French municipality with 1631 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Calais and the Canton of Calais-2 .

geography

Licques is located about 19 kilometers south-southeast of Calais on the course of the Hem , a small tributary of the Aa . The place is located in the Regional Natural Park of Caps et Marais d'Opale .

history

The place can trace its roots back to the Middle Ages: The Premonstratensian Abbey of Licques was founded in the 12th century and was only abolished with the French Revolution. The Donjon of Licques is only preserved as a ruin.
