Escalles ( Flemish : scale ) is a French municipality with 228 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France (before 2016: Nord-Pas-de-Calais ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Calais , the canton of Calais-1 (until 2015: canton of Calais-Nord-Ouest ) and the communal association Communauté d'agglomération du Calaisis . The inhabitants are called Escallois .
geography
Escalles is located about four kilometers southwest of Calais on the so-called Opal Coast with the Cap Blanc-Nez viewpoint . The municipality is part of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Regional Nature Park . Escalles is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Sangatte in the north and northeast, Peuplingues in the east, Bonningues-lès-Calais in the southeast, Hervelinghen in the south and Wissant in the southwest.
