Balinghem (NDL .: "Balingem") is a French municipality with 1169 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France .

geography

The community is located 16 km southeast of Calais (ndl .: "Kales"), on the D228 between Ardres (ndl .: "Aarde") and Guînes (ndl .: "Gizene"). It is part of the Caps et Marais d'Opale Regional Nature Park .

history

Until January 7, 1558, the area around Calais to Balinghem belonged to the territory of the King of England. From June 7th to 24th, 1520 , Francis I of France and Henry VIII of England met at the Camp du Drap d'Or . On the host side, the meeting was prepared by Thomas Wolsey , who was also the apostolic nuncio and lord chancellor of England. The French guests emphasized the role of Galiot de Genouillac as organizer.

In 1995 Jean-Claude Vandenbergue was mayor.
