Fréthun ( Flemish : Fraaithuin ) is a French municipality with 1322 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pas-de-Calais in the region of Hauts-de-France (before 2016: Nord-Pas-de-Calais ). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Calais , the canton of Calais-1 (until 2015: canton of Calais-Nord-Ouest ) and the communal association Communauté d'agglomération du Calaisis . The inhabitants are called Fréthunois .

geography

Fréthun is about four kilometers southwest of Calais . Fréthun is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Coquelles in the north, Hames-Boucres in the south and east, Nielles-lès-Calais in the south, Bonningues-lès-Calais in the south-west and Peuplingues in the west and north-west.

The large shunting area for the entrance to the Eurotunnel with the Calais-Fréthun train station is located in the municipality .
