Potassium phosphonates

Potassium phosphonates (formerly: potassium phosphites ) are the potassium salts of phosphonic acid and belong to the group of phosphonates .

Examples of potassium phosphonates are potassium hydrogen phosphonate and dipotassium phosphonate .

Mixtures of potassium hydrogen phosphonate and dipotassium phosphonate were listed in Germany as plant strengtheners for conventional and organic cultivation until 2013 . They have been approved as plant protection products in the EU since April 2013 and can therefore no longer be used in organic farming. Kaliumphosphonate have a fungicidal activity against downy mildew ( Peronospora ) on the producer and against the late blight ( Phythophtora ) in potatoes. Potassium sosonate preparations for use against downy mildew in viticulture are available in Germany and Austria; in Austria a preparation effective against scab in pome fruit is also approved. Like other phosphonates, potassium phosphonates also serve as phosphorus fertilizers. Furthermore, like other phosphonates, they have a nematocidal effect against Meloidogyne javanica and Meloidogyne incognita .
