Capannori is an Italian municipality with 46,774 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Lucca in Tuscany .

geography

The municipality occupies a large part of the Lucca plain east of Lucca between the Apennines and Monte Pisano . It consists of 41 districts, most of which have their own centers. The municipality is in the climatic classification of Italian municipalities in zone D, 1 691 GG.

history

The original settlement structure of the municipality did not develop from individual villages, but from Corti (courtyards), which consisted of the residential and farm buildings of several families and were surrounded by gardens and fields. Today, many of the previously vacant areas are filled with single houses.

The current capital, Capannori, was mentioned for the first time in 745. In 1913, the municipal area shrank when Porcari became an independent municipality. Also Badia di Pozzeveri with the Abbey of San Pietro has been one of Capannori, but is today part of Altopascio.

Other structures

Tempietto di Guamo
  • Acquedotto Nottolini , aqueduct by Lorenzo Nottolini (1787-1851), which starts from the Tempietto di Guamo in the district of Guamo and brings the water to the Tempietto di San Concordio, just before the old town of Lucca. Work began in 1823 and was completed in 1851. The aqueduct has 459 arches. The waterway is no longer in use today, it is interrupted by the A11 autostrada .

Partnerships

Since 1993 there has been a partnership between the Saarland community Losheim am See and Capannori. A partnership has existed with the French municipality of La Gaude since 2002. Friendly relations exist with Penzberg (Germany) and Lenti (Hungary).
