Pescaglia is an Italian municipality in the province of Lucca in Tuscany with 3371 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location of the municipality of Pescaglia in the province of Lucca

The municipality is located about 15 km northwest of the provincial capital Lucca and about 70 km northwest of the regional capital Florence in the climatic classification of Italian communities in zone E, 2,695 GG in the western Serchio Valley . Important bodies of water in the municipal area are the Torrenti Turrite Cava , Turrite di San Rocco (7 of 7 km in the municipality), Freddana (3 of 19 km in the municipality), Pedogna (12 of 16 km in the municipality), Pescaglia (every 4 km in the municipality ) and Vinciola (every 5 km in the municipality), which all belong to the Serchio river system.

history

Today's main town emerged from the medieval towns of Piazzanello , Villabuona and Poggio , Poggio being the oldest and mentioned as a fief of the Ronaldinghi family as early as the 11th century. The place was also documented in a document from Pope Alexander II in 1062. Today's community was established in 1837 when the place became independent from Borgo a Mozzano.
