Sillano Giuncugnano is an Italian municipality in the province of Lucca , region of Tuscany with 1025 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Location of Sillano Giuncugnano in the province of Lucca

The place is about 45 km north of the provincial capital Lucca and about 91 km northwest of the regional capital Florence . The municipality is located in the Garfagnana countryside and on the upper reaches of the Serchio River (main arm Serchio di Sillano ).

The neighboring municipalities are Casola in Lunigiana ( MS ), Collagna ( RE ), Fivizzano (MS), Ligonchio (RE), Minucciano , Piazza al Serchio , San Romano in Garfagnana , Villa Collemandina and Villa Minozzo (RE).

history

The municipality was created on January 1, 2015 by merging the previously independent municipalities of Sillano with 660 inhabitants and Giuncugnano with 481 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2013). In the referendum of October 26th and 27th, 65.27% (52.92% turnout) in Sillano voted in favor of the union, in Giuncugnano 64.18% (49.63% turnout). The law merging the two municipalities is Legge Regionale n.71 of November 24, 2014. The town hall is located in Sillano.

  • Natività di Maria , also called Madonna del Perduto Soccorso , church in Rocca Soraggio. Was consecrated to San Martino until 1758 and then lost the title to the church in Villa Soraggio.
  • San Bartolomeo , church in Sillano, built in 1405.
  • Chiesa del Carmine , church in Sillano, built around 1580.
  • Madonna di Caravaggio , also called Oratorio della Vergine del Ponte , oratorio from the early 18th century just outside of Sillano on the Serchio di Sillano river.
