Lenti (German: Nempthy ) is an in Zala county located Hungarian city. 7,992 inhabitants live in an area of ​​73.8 km² (as of 2011).

geography

Lenti is a sub-center in western Hungary with a thermal spa, it is located about 80 km from Lake Balaton, not far from the Austrian (35 km), Slovenian (15 km) and Croatian (25 km) borders near (32 km) the town of Zalaegerszeg .

history

The first mention of it comes from the year 1237. The name was written as Nempthy ( Németi ), which indicates the presence of German settlers . In the 16th and 17th centuries it played a more important role when its increasingly important castle was built next to the swampy Kerka River on an island during the Turkish battles . After the fighting, the settlement lost its importance, it was only in the last few decades that it was assessed as important again. The Church of Lenti

The castle is a baroque style storage building from the 18th century, next to the Kerka river, in an L shape. There is a small pond around them.

The Roman Catholic Church was built in the last years of the 17th century. There is also a Trinity monument and the sculpture of Stefan the Saint (1996, János Béres).

There is a belfry in Lentiszombathely (from the 18th century) and in Bárszentmihályfa (from the 20th century).

Thermal bath
