history
The oldest traces of settlement found in the area of Csömödér in the form of ceramic fragments date from the Neolithic Age . The first written mention of the place under the name Chydemer comes from the year 1324. The name of the place is said to be of Slavic origin. The first entries in the local chronicle date from 1778. At that time there were 246 Catholic residents. In 1832 the local vineyard was mentioned. There was no school until the end of the 19th century. The children attended the Catholic school in neighboring Páka. In 1895 the first school was built in Csömödér. After the First World War , a forest railway was built and in 1921 the Kerkavölgyi Faipari Rt steam sawmill was built. This created employment opportunities for fifty people in the region. In 1925 the primary school had two classrooms and two teachers. At that time there were four shoemakers , a wagner , a blacksmith , three bricklayers and two bars in the village . After successful drilling in Budafapuszta in 1937, the emergence of the oil industry secured additional jobs. After the Second World War , the Agricultural Production Cooperative Jobblét Tsz was founded in 1959 , and in 1974 it merged with the Boldogulás Útja production cooperative in Páka. In that year the local council built a new school with eight classrooms, to which a sports hall was later added. After the regime change and the dissolution of the producers' cooperative in the 1990s, three quarters of those employed there lost their jobs. In 1991, lessons in the old school were discontinued. Nowadays forestry plays an important role and efforts are made to increase tourism in the region.
