A vanity URL or a vanity domain (from English vanity , vanity ) is a URL or a domain that has an easy-to-remember and meaningful name. Technically, they usually represent a forwarding . The counterpart to the telephone is the vanity number .

These addresses became popular with the expansion of the World Wide Web in the 1990s.

Social networks such as Facebook , LinkedIn and Twitter offer their users vanity URLs.
