Eduard Margerie

Eduard Margerie (born April 23, 1879 in Elberfeld , † December 11, 1965 in Wirsberg ) was a doctor and local researcher in Upper Franconia .

Life

Eduard Margerie came from a Huguenot family that had lived in Erlangen since the 17th century . In 1882 he came to Wirsberg with his parents and siblings, where his father had acquired a Turkish red yarn dyeing factory in the Golden Eagle Hut. He completed his education at grammar schools in Bayreuth and Würzburg. Following his father's request, he then studied chemistry in Munich. In the year after his father's death, however, he decided to study medicine and in 1912 founded a nerve sanatorium in his parents' property in the Golden Eagle Hut near Wirsberg.

As an enthusiastic homeland researcher, Margerie was looking for like-minded people. In 1924 he founded the history association Colloquium Historicum Wirsbergense with the Ludwigschorgast pastor Johannes Schlund . In 1927 he founded the local branch Wirsberg of the Franconian Forest Association ; After the Second World War , he re-established this association and was elected its main chairman in 1949. Margerie worked with great commitment on a history of Wirsberg , led the excavations at the Leonhardskirche near Wirsberg in 1935/36 and took care of the preservation of the Paille-Maille near Himmelkron, which was threatened with demolition .

In the Kulmbach City Archives there is a box with the written estate of Eduard Margerie, which mainly contains correspondence and notes on the von Wirsberg family and their offices.
