The Colloquium Historicum Wirsbergense (Friends of Local History and History in Franconia), or CHW for short , is a local history and history association founded in 1924 . With over 1750 members, the CHW is one of the largest history societies in Franconia and Bavaria .

history

"Colloquium Historicum Wirsbergense" literally means historical conversation by Wirsberg and indicates the establishment of the association as a discussion group of ten notables interested in local history, including Eduard Margerie . Lorenz Reinhard Spitzenpfeil , who also designed the logos of the Frankenwaldverein and the Fichtelgebirgsverein , created the club logo.

tasks

Every year the CHW organizes over a hundred lectures, symposia and excursions all over Franconia, the summer program is characterized by guided tours and short hikes, the winter program is focused on lectures. The events are led by expert speakers. In order to do justice to the name Colloquium , every participant in an event is invited to contribute with questions and discussions. All events of the CHW are public and can be visited by anyone interested in history, not just members. The CHW supports research projects, carries out its own and publishes the results with the endeavor to maintain knowledge of history in Franconia. Furthermore, the CHW is dedicated to the preservation of historical testimonies and monuments.
