Story and idea

Christine Ott and Michael Pfeuffer founded the Stellwerck publishing house while they were still studying in 2008. The motivation was to create a platform for early publications for young authors. The motto was initially literature by students for students and was unique in the literary landscape at the time.

Unlike the majority of publishers, Stellwerck creates its publishing program exclusively on the basis of the manuscripts that are sent to the publisher. Stellwerck books are intended to directly depict the thematic, formal and linguistic diversity of young literature. According to the publisher, the selection criterion is solely the text quality and the literary innovation and originality of a text. Whether the author has good contacts in the literature business, has a relevant list of publications or an exciting biography does not play a role in the selection.

Since 2012, activities in the field of literature mediation have been added under the name Stellwerck Agency .

With the founding of a fiction publishing house while still studying, Stellwerck is in a line of tradition u. a. with the small publishing house Studio Neue Literatur by Gudrun Ensslin and Bernward Vesper .

activities

With the first book in 2009, Stellwerck also brought the stellwerck literaturbühne into being (at the time in Standard , Würzburg), where young authors can try out themselves in front of an audience. Stellwerck has intensified this commitment. Today Stellwerck develops, mediates and implements a wide variety of young formats for communicating literature and culture. These include poetry slam workshops where Stellwerck authors are taught in schools. One example is the poetry slam workshop Changing Perspectives , in which the literary didactic approach of poetry slam and intercultural learning are brought together. Since November 2014 Stellwerck has been artistic director of the Villa Jungnikl , Würzburg's house for literature and young art, together with the association KöR - Art in Public Space . The villa is a performance, exhibition and workshop school.
