Tobias Roth (* 1985 in Munich ) is a German poet , translator and essayist .

Life

Tobias Roth grew up and went to school in Munich-Trudering , and in the meantime he also lived in Chartres . He studied German language and literature and art history in Freiburg at the Albert Ludwig University and European literatures at the Humboldt University in Berlin . From 2013 to 2016 he was a research assistant in the Collaborative Research Center 644 Transformation of Antiquity , and in 2017 he received his doctorate at the HU with a thesis on the sonnets Giovanni Pico della Mirandolas .

As a culture journalist, Tobias Roth worked for the online feuilletons klassik.com from 2007 to 2015 ; between 2009 and 2011 he was responsible for a page on contemporary poetry for Die Berliner Literaturkritik and for the online portal fixpoetry.com he designed and managed the monthly series In Augenschein in 2013 and in 2014 the series Dichtertotenbriefe . Since 2013 he has published reviews and essays in the poetry portal Signaturen. From 2011 to 2017 he was editor of the Berlin Renaissance Communication.

Tobias Roth has been a member of the Mainz Society for the Promotion of Design, Art and Communication since 2005 and has been on the board of the International Wilhelm Müller Society since 2012 . Tobias Roth has published several academic writings on literary-historical topics, but appears mainly as a poet, translator and essayist.

Together with Sophia Pompéry Tobias Roth realized in the summer of 2016, the text installation rows of houses , which was sponsored by the district office center of Berlin. A 1600 meter long monostitch ran in a continuous line through the streets of Moabit , painted with whiting chalk.

Tobias Roth is a founding partner of the publishing house Das Kulturelle Gedächtnis , whose first program was published in spring 2017 and was voted one of the most beautiful German books of the year by the Book Art Foundation.

The 2018 published book of poetry excavation plan was a lyric recommendations presented by the German Academy for Language and Literature in collaboration with the Foundation Poetry Cabinet and the House of Poetry Berlin in cooperation with the German Library Association annually to the Leipzig Book Fair published.

As a translator he took part in the smuggling of verse as part of the poetry festival (2017) and in the poetry of the neighbors in the Künstlerhaus Edenkoben (2019), and was a mentor in the Hieronymus program of the German Translator Fund (2018).
