The canton school Zürcher Unterland is a canton school (grammar school) in Bülach in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland . It opened on April 18, 1972.

history

On June 6, 1971, the sovereign of the canton of Zurich approved the loan applications for the canton schools in Oerlikon and Bülach by referendum. On October 14, 1971, the government council decided under the designation "Provisional Canton School Department Bülach" that the department Bülach should become a new and independent canton school. The Oerlikon canton school department took over most of the necessary preparatory work until a rector was elected.

admission

Students from the 6th primary class, the 2nd or 3rd secondary level are accepted with an examination. The pupils of the 6th primary class must take an examination in mathematics and German and, together with the last transcript, achieve an examination result of 4.5.

Secondary school students are required to take an exam in mathematics, German and French. The average of the examination results must be at least 4.0 in order to be accepted at the Zürcher Unterland Cantonal School.

classes

Students are taught languages, science, math, history, geography, computer science, economics and law, and sports. After two years, the student chooses a profile and can thus deepen in one direction. Be at school English , French , Latin , German , Russian , Italian , Spanish and, if required Ancient Greek language taught.

  • Latin I is taught in the ancient language profile . Secondary school students cannot choose this profile because they lack basic knowledge.
  • In the new language profile , English and French are taught as well as Spanish or Italian.
  • In the math and science profile , French and English are taught. The subjects of mathematics and physics are getting stronger.
  • The economic and legal profile focuses on economics and law. French and English are compulsory. Depending on the semester, physics, chemistry and biology are also taught.
  • The musical profile places the emphasis on the subjects “artistic design” and music, which are rated more strongly. The students have to take instrumental lessons once a week. This grade is included in the overall assessment.

The canton school consists of three buildings: classroom building, auditorium & cafeteria and sports hall.

  • In the classroom building, all classrooms are housed on the upper floors with the exception of the rooms for instrumental lessons. The first floor houses the secretariat, the teachers' rooms, the rooms of the rector and vice rectors, the multi-purpose rooms and the media library. The science and geography rooms are on the ground floor. The workshops and the photo studio were housed in the basement.
  • The auditorium and cafeteria is a one-story building. It belongs to the SV Mensa Association.
  • The sports hall consists of four individual halls, a fitness room and an outdoor area.

Annemie Fontana's spherical sculpture “Durchstep” , erected between 1980 and 1983, stands on a mound of grass .
