The Kantonsschule Zürich Nord (KZN) is a public middle school in Zürich - Oerlikon with all Matura profiles (old language, modern language, mathematical-scientific, musical and economic-legal) as well as a lower grammar school . The school also has a technical secondary school with the profiles of health and natural sciences, communication and information, and education. With around 3,000 students, who are taught by more than 300 teachers, the school is the largest grammar school in the Canton of Zurich and one of the largest secondary schools in Switzerland.

General

history

The KZN was founded at the beginning of the autumn semester 2012/2013 through the merger of the Cantonal School Oerlikon, which was previously at the same location, and the Cantonal School Zurich Birch, which was only created in 2004 from the Cantonal School Riesbach due to a spatial rochade of various cantonal schools and universities . The merger met with massive resistance from teachers and students, especially in the Oerlikon Cantonal School. Until the cantonal council decision, in which only the EDU and a few from the CVP voted against, the opponents tried to make themselves heard among the students with a website and a petition. The merger process was characterized by differences, due to which two members of the project team will not appear as prorectors of the new school and the school will still be divided into the Birch and Oerlikon departments for the first year.

Construction and location

The KZN is located in a three-floor, four-story building that was already used by the previous schools. There is also a separate canteen, 6 gyms and a quarter-circle auditorium. Another building that was previously used by the PHZH is to be integrated into the school. The KZN is surrounded by a sports facility, a smaller greenhouse and a biotope.

The location is near the Oerlikon train station . The next VBZ stops are the Bad Allenmoos or "Regensbergbrücke" stations on tram line 11 and "Birchdörfli" on bus line 32. This makes the school particularly attractive for students from the north of Zurich and the northern agglomeration communities.
