The canton school Hohe Promenade (abbreviated KSHP ; colloquially often called HoPro ) is a public secondary school in Zurich with the Matura profiles in both ancient and modern languages. It has around 750 students, with the majority of girls slightly predominating, and over 100 teachers.
history
Today's canton school Hohe Promenade was founded in 1875 as a secondary school for the city of Zurich and was then housed in the canons of the Great Minster in Zurich's old town. In 1913 they moved into the current building on the Hohen Promenade hill above Zurich Stadelhofen train station . The building, designed by Gustav Gull , is richly decorated and equipped with works of art.
Due to the increasing number of students, more buildings were built. In 1975 the neighboring Stadelhofen Cantonal School was established as a separate school.
In 1976 the canton, which had always only run boys' grammar schools in the city, took over the higher daughter schools - until then also called Töchti or, less flatteringly, monkey box - and, as in the rest of the canton, introduced mixed grammar schools. At this time the school got its current name Kantonsschule Hohe Promenade .
From July 2008 to August 2010 the main building was completely renovated. During this time, school operations were relocated to the premises of the Oerlikon vocational school at Zurich Oerlikon train station . The building was converted and the infrastructure in the classrooms was modernized for almost 40 million Swiss francs. A media library was installed in the old gym .
particularities
Subject selection
The school prides itself on the particularly large selection of linguistic Matura subjects that it offers - in addition to the usual subjects, these are also Spanish and Russian - as well as the various optional subjects from Arabic to Chinese to ornithology and current world affairs, which are open to students.
Another special feature are the projects , each one on the 4th and 5th grade semester are carried out for: the project media and society , the project Multilingual Switzerland and in arts project .
There is the possibility to prefer three subjects in the 6th grade, which are dealt with in depth in three additional hours per week.
Outbuildings
Photovoltaic systems for generating solar power are attached to the annex building, which was newly built in the 1990s and which houses the cafeteria, gyms and classrooms and which is shared with the Stadelhofen School . Two other small neighboring houses also house classrooms.
Casoja mountain school home
The canton school Hohe Promenade has owned the Casoja mountain school in Valbella , built in 1924 , which was used for housekeeping courses until it was abolished and is now used for working weeks.
Albania Committee
The Albania Committee Hohe Promenade collects money through an annual sponsored run, cake sales and other campaigns and runs the Hopro of Tirana as a school for children from poor families in Tirana , Albania . The committee is led by a history teacher and students.
