Limmat Valley

The Limmat Valley extends from the city of Zurich from Lake Zurich in a north-westerly direction along the Heitersberg to Brugg and is thus partly in the canton of Zurich and partly in the canton of Aargau . By Limmattalstrasse flowing Limmatdruck that when surge in Brugg in the Aar opens.

Today the Limmattal is a densely built-up agglomeration landscape over long stretches. The following municipalities and cities are in the Limmat Valley: Zurich , Oberengstringen , Unterengstringen , Schlieren , Weiningen , Urdorf , Dietikon , Bergdietikon , Geroldswil , Oetwil , Spreitenbach , Würenlos , Killwangen , Neuenhof , Wettingen , Baden , Ennetbaden , Obersiggenthal , Untersiggenthal and Turgi .

The Limmattal marshalling yard (abbreviated RBL) of the Zurich railway junction between Spreitenbach and Dietikon is named after the valley .

As early as 1930, the government council of the canton of Zurich declared the remains of the pristine meadow landscape , the Dietiker Altllauf, a nature reserve. In addition, with the new concession of the Wettingen hydropower plant in 2005, the Geroldswiler floodplains were newly laid out. The reed meadows of the Dietiker Schachen are home to over 150 species of plants. The kingfisher , little ringed plover and grass snake can be seen in the floodplains .
