Christian Waber (born May 7, 1948 in Waldkirch ; resident in Horrenbach-Buchen ) is a Swiss politician ( EDU ).

Life

Waber is a qualified master builder and now works as a consultant. In 2004 he founded the Elim Foundation, which runs a house in Wasen for single mothers with children, pregnant women, women with psychological and social problems as well as large families and supports them in their social integration.

He is married and has four grown children. He lives in the village of Wasen in Sumiswald in the Emmental .

politics

From 1985 to 1992 Christian Waber was a councilor in Sumiswald. From 1990 to 1997 he was a member of the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern , until he joined the National Council in June 1997 . In his work as National Councilor, Waber sat on the Business Audit Commission (GPK) and the Judicial Commission (GK) for the Federal Insurance Court , and was also a member of the National Council office. After 12 years in office as National Councilor, Waber resigned at the end of August 2009. He was replaced by Andreas Brönnimann , who, however, did not make the 2011 election. From 1996 to 2000 Waber was President of the EDU. From 2013 to 2016 Waber was mayor of Sumiswald, where he has lived for decades.

In 2008 Waber founded a parliamentary group between Switzerland and Israel, which now has 49 parliamentarians (apart from the Greens, all parties are represented, three quarters of whom are SVP politicians). The aim is to "strengthen the relationship between Switzerland and Israel."

Racism allegations

In 2008 a criminal complaint was filed against Waber for racial discrimination . According to Waber, Islam is militantly striving for world domination . He described Islam as an inhuman faith with clan liability , forced marriage and children who were used to commit suicide bombers .
