history
Bernhardzell was first mentioned in a document in 898. Waldkirch and Bernhardzell have been part of a political community since 1803.
geography
Waldkirch borders the communities of Bischofszell , Hauptwil-Gottshaus , Niederbüren , Gossau , Andwil , Gaiserwald , Wittenbach and Häggenschwil . It is a rural community (63.8% agricultural land, 30% of jobs in the primary sector). The community consists of the villages of Waldkirch and Bernhardzell. This also includes the villages of Ronwil, Edlischwil and Hohfirst, as well as the smaller hamlets of Obergrimm, Oberwil and Rüti.
politics
Waldkirch is a political municipality. There are also the primary school community Waldkirch and the primary school community Bernhardzell ; the two parts of the village have their own primary schools. In Waldkirch itself there is an upper school center for the whole community. The upper school has been incorporated into the community since January 1st, 2011. The school council is responsible for direct management. The official announcements are made in the newsletter of the political community Waldkirch "WaldkirchAktuell".
religion
Waldkirch and Bernhardzell are Catholic and have their own churches. These are borne by the Catholic parish of Waldkirch and the Catholic parish of Bernhardzell .
traffic
In the west of the municipality, the railway runs from Gossau to Bischofszell via the municipality, but there is no train station. The community is developed through the road network; there are postbus connections to Wittenbach, Gossau and Engelburg.
One of the first hotels without staff is in Waldkirch .
