Hauptwil-Gottshaus is a municipality in the district of Weinfelden in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland . It consists of the localities Hauptwil , Wilen (Gottshaus) and St. Pelagiberg and a group of hamlets in between.
The community, which has existed since 1996, emerged as part of the Thurgau community organization from the union of the municipal community Hauptwil with their local communities Hauptwil and Gottshaus .
geography
The municipality of Hauptwil-Gottshaus borders the municipalities of Bischofszell and Zihlschlacht-Sitterdorf in the canton of Thurgau and the St. Gallen municipalities of Waldkirch , Muolen and Häggenschwil .
Between the village of Hauptwil and the hamlet of Wilen there are five ponds that were created in the 15th century ( see below ).
history
The five ponds of Hauptwil were artificially created around 1430 for fish farming. Later these were useful in the textile industry. The German poet Friedrich Hölderlin worked as a private tutor in Hauptwil from January to April 1801.
During the revolution at the end of the 18th century, a deep rift was drawn between the two parts of the community. While Hauptwil was a driving force behind the introduction of the Swiss standard constitution , the Gottshauser peasantry fought vehemently against these innovations. Nevertheless, in 1803 the two local parishes of Hauptwil and Gottshaus were merged to form the municipal parish of Hauptwil.
Hauptwil received the Thurgau Home Protection Prize in 1992 and the Wakker Prize in 1999 , in which they ensured through careful building regulations that many residential and commercial buildings from the last three centuries were preserved and gently adapted to today's conditions.

With the merger of Gottshaus and Hauptwil in 1996 - the Stocken / Breite settlement of the former community of Gottshaus was assigned to the unified community of Bischofszell - a new coat of arms was also introduced. In addition to the two unchanged symbols taken from the former municipality coats of arms, the water was also included in the new coat of arms as a symbol for the well-known reservoirs of Hauptwil.
