Engishofen is a village in the municipality of Erlen in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland . Engishofen formed from 1816 to 1994 a local community of the former municipality of Erlen.
geography
The off-road connection Sulgen - Amriswil lying Street Village has an architecture historic settlement pattern with half-timbered buildings in the 18th and 19th centuries.
history
The place is first mentioned between 770 and 774 as Ongiseshoua (?). The bailiwick of Engishofen is documented in 1346 as a fiefdom of the St. Gallic abbot and from the 15th century to 1798 as a fiefdom of the bishop of Constance . In 1492 Engishofen belonged to the Eppishausen jurisdiction , later it came to the Oberaach Lower Court , which was owned by the von Salis-Soglio family as an episcopal-Constance fief from 1646 to 1798 , but was administered by the Häberli family based in Oberaach. In church terms, the predominantly Reformed Engishofen always belonged to the parish of Sommeri .
In the 19th century arable and fruit growing, linen trade and cotton weaving were carried out. Machine embroidery was added around 1900, followed by a cheese dairy in 1906. Despite recent new buildings, Engishofen has retained its rural character. In 1990 61% of jobs were in the first economic sector .

Of the total of 167 inhabitants in Engishofen in 2018, 14 or 8.4% were foreign nationals. 106 (63.5%) were Protestant Reformed and 28 (16.8%) were Roman Catholic.
