Sommeri is a municipality and a town in the district of Arbon of the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland . Sommeri is located on the foothills of the Seerücken north of Amriswil . Until 1966, Sommeri was a municipal municipality with the local parishes of Niedersommeri and Obersommeri .
The political municipality of Sommeri was created in 1967 through the union of the local parishes of Niedersommeri and Obersommeri with the municipal municipality of Sommeri to form a unified municipality of Sommeri. 1803 to 1807 the former municipality of Hefenhofen and 1803 to 1816 Niederaach part of the municipality of Sommeri.
history
Sommeri was first mentioned as Sumbrinaro in 905 . 1474-1798 which formed bailiwicks low and Obersommeri the fürstäbtisch-sanktgallische Malefizgericht Sommeri. In 1474 Sommeri got an opening . The church consecrated to St. Mauritius received its present appearance in the first half of the 15th century. After the Reformation in 1528, an ecclesiastical simultaneous relationship was established from 1534 .
Agriculture ( high fields ) and forestry were predominant , in the second half of the 19th century fruit growing, grass, cattle and dairy farming. In 1852 a cheese dairy was opened. In the last third of the 20th century, Sommeri was an industrial community with embroidery and upholstered furniture production. At the beginning of the 21st century, there were companies in the air conditioning, precision mechanics and school furniture manufacturing sectors.

The black hawk as a symbol of rulership refers to the various rulers who had the say in Sommeri over the years. The colors, on the other hand, refer to the St. Gallen Abbey . Since 1967 from the local communities Ober- and Niedersommeri the unified community Sommeri was formed, the coat of arms of the former local community Niedersommeri has been used as the community coat of arms in the colors of the coat of arms of the local community Obersommeri.
