history

Parish before the merger in 1995

Andwil was mentioned in 846 under Anninwilare and in 1295 as Anewille . Andwil was a fiefdom of the Hochstift Konstanz , but the later municipality area belonged to different lords until 1798: Partly it belonged to the Andwil court of the Konstanzer Stift St. Stephan , partly to the courts Berg and Oberaach , while Ober-Andwil, Eckartshausen, Heimenhofen and Lenzenhaus as so-called high courts were directly subordinate to the governor.

The parish was incorporated into St. Stephen's Monastery in 1350 . After the Reformation in 1529, Andwil was supplied by Birwinken and Sommeri , and from 1678 by Bürglen . The Reformed parish has been associated with Bürglen since 1809 .

Traditionally, grain cultivation in the three-cell system and viticulture were practiced . In the middle of the 19th century there was a shift to animal husbandry and fruit growing , and from 1938 to 1942 goods were amalgamated. House weaving and embroidery was carried out in the 19th century. In Heimenhofen there was (Schiffli) embroidery from 1872 to 1931 and a bicycle factory from 1934 to 1961. In 1853 Johann Jakob Wehrli set up an agricultural school on the Guggenbühl. Despite various small businesses, Andwil has retained its rural character until recently.

Blazon : split from white with red and from red with yellow lion turned away .

The colors red and yellow in the coat of arms are reminiscent of the Landvogtei Thurgau , red and white of the rule of Berg. The yellow lion is the Thurgau lion , the red is the heraldic animal of the Lords of Hugelshofen , who sold goods in Andwil to St. Stephan monastery in Constance in 1295.
