Johann Jacob Wehrli (born November 6, 1790 in Eschikofen , TG; † March 15, 1855 in Andwil TG ) was a Swiss educator .

Johann Jacobs father was a schoolmaster in Eschikofen. On the recommendation of his father, he came to Hofwil , where under Philipp Emanuel von Fellenberg he directed the school for the poor , founded in 1804 , which combined instruction with handicraft. The agricultural Wehrli schools were named after him. Wehrli worked, ate and slept with his pupils.

In 1833 he was elected by the Thurgau government council as the first director of the teachers' college, which was housed in the Seeburg in Kreuzlingen until 1850 . When Thomas Scherr became President of the Education Council in 1852 , Wehrli resigned due to differing views on teacher training and opened a private school in Andwil.
