Heinrich Morf , pseudonym: Heinrich Breitner (born September 6, 1818 in Breite near Nürensdorf ; † February 28, 1899 in Winterthur ) was a Swiss educator and writer .

Life

Morf was the son of a farmer . Since there was still no school in his hometown, he received his first lessons in the private rooms of a craftsman. At the intercession of the pastor, he came to the Küsnacht teacher training college (ZH) in 1835 , where he was trained under Ignaz Thomas Scherr . In 1837 he was appointed secondary teacher in Schwerzenbach . In 1840/1841 it collapsed due to overwork. For a year he went to the Lausanne Academy for further studies . In 1842 he became head of the secondary school in Dürnten and chapter president . In 1847 he moved to the secondary school in Richterswil .

Morf took in 1850 a reputation as a seminary teacher for German and education at the teacher training college Kreuzlingen on. In 1852 he followed a call from the conservative Bern government as director of the reopened teachers' college in Münchenbuchsee , but was voted out of office in 1860 for political reasons. On May 1, 1861, he was appointed director of the orphanage in Winterthur. He also gave lessons in German at the upper girls' school and grammar school as well as pedagogy and psychology at the Winterthur teacher training college.

Morf received an honorary doctorate from the University of Zurich in 1890 , among other things for his four-volume work on Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi .

The Romanist Heinrich Morf is his son.
