Weerswilen is a former municipality and a settlement in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland . The local community Weerswilen was from 1803 to 1994 part of the municipal community Berg (TG) . The local community Weerswilen separated in 1995 - but without the village Beckelswilen - as part of the Thurgau community reform from the municipal community Berg and joined the unified community Weinfelden .
geography
The village of Weerswilen is located on the southern slope of the Ottenberg near Weinfelden. In addition to Weerswilen, the local community also included the hamlets Beckelswilen, Oberhard, Ottenberg and part of Burg.
history
Wernswille was first mentioned in a document in 1291. In the High Middle Ages, Weerswilen was probably an episcopal-Constance fiefdom of the Barons von Bussnang , which later went to the von Roggwil as a judicial authority - including Altschhof, houses in Dotnacht and Engelswilen . Weerswilen sold these to the von Ulm in 1391 . An opening was issued between 1466 and 1496. From 1711 to 1798 the court in Weerswilen was owned by the city of Zurich .
Weerswilen was a church in Berg until 2000, then in Weinfelden.
In Weerswilen, fields, meadows and fruit were grown and, up to the 19th century, viticulture was practiced to a significant extent. From 1904 to 2003 there was a cheese dairy in the village, from 1885 to 1896 there was an embroidery and from 1917 to 1922 a ship embroidery. The number of farms decreased steadily in the 20th century.
